Okay our old schedule isn't working for us. Having a 13 month old is very distracting and somedays I just throw in the towel and call it a day. I'm not too worried about my 8 yr. old ds, but I do feel my dd needs more of my attention. So after much thought we are going to try a new approach to our schedule. Lesley will have her core lessons taught on M-W-F and Noah will have his on T-Th-Sun. We are trying this out for a trial period and shall progress from there.
Today we had a very productive school day. Lesley is reading The Second Summer of the Sisterhood and an Abby Haynes book. Noah is reading Magic Tree House Viking Ship at Sunrise. Our read aloud this week is The Sisters Grimm : Fairy Tale Detectives Book One.
For math Lesley worked in her Saxon book and Noah did a lesson in his Horizons text.
Both worked on European geography on the computer. Lesley is also learning the European capitals.
Noah is learning about consonant digraphs gn, kn, and sc in spelling. While lesley worked on her vocabulary words and used them in sentences. She also did some grammar and spelling work.
For history we read about Theseus and the Minotaur since we are learning about Ancient Greece
Later in the day the kids played kick ball with most of the neighborhood kids. We also found another huge black widow in our garage surrounded buy her newly hatched babies. There were hundreds all over a small table in the garage. My hubby quickly destroyed their web and sprayed them all with Raid spider killer. I just hate to think that a few may have gotten away and are lurking somewhere in our garage. I would freak if one of the kids got bit by one.
On another note I must mention that my family and I are so sadden by the death of Steve Irwin. We love Animal Planet in our house. Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin are our favorite host. It's just so devastating that he has died. God bless him and his family. Also bravo to Katie Couric on a job well done for her first on air appearance as CBS evening anchor.
Well now I'm off to read blogs.Ciao,
Stephanie
